About RK Kitchen
My name is Rebecca Klemke [pronounced klem-kee] but most people call me Becks, Bec, Becca, Becky or Bea.
I’m all about the abundance of epic ‘eats’ - finding, cooking, eating, and sharing the experience of good food.
I am a cook, an author, and a hobby-style photographer. I’ve written and recently published a cookbook, Decades Of Decadence. It is the story of my family’s culinary history. This 300 recipe book is the food I eat on a regular basis; the food I grew-up eating.
My philosophy on life is simple – good food is a key ingredient to great living. Since the dawn of time good food has been a conduit for memorable experiences and heartfelt relationships. For me, it began with a Grandma who lived for creating fabulous food. Nothing evokes my family’s charm so eloquently as our food. From the most casual meal to a black-tie sit down dinner party, my family’s vibrant cuisine mirrors perfectly the passion, style and joy that marks my way of life. I believe that good food brings great pleasure to many.
I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, born and raised – 5th generation Calgarian actually. I like it here in Calgary, for many reasons – family, friends, history, Alberta beef, our country side, the Rocky Mountains, fresh water lakes and National Parks, like Lake Louise and Banff, that are but a drive away; and although the weather can be harsh, I like the four seasons, the Chinooks winds, and most of all our sunsets.
Decades Of Decadence began eight-and-a-half years ago, during my University years, when my Grandma and I began transcribing her recipe boxes. She had a number of recipe boxes, all stuffed full with delicious food – recipes passed down for generations and acquired from family and friend’s travels of the world. It took three years to transcribe Grandmas boxes of recipes. At the time no one knew but as a result I’ve written and published a cookbook, titled Decades Of Decadence. The 300 recipe cookbook speaks of my family’s culinary history, but more specifically, the decades of decadence that was my Grandmother’s life. People who have been apart of my experience of crafting this book tease me of it being more like an encyclopedia of food than a cookbook. It’s been a process, and now that it’s become its own identity, a published cookbook, Decades Of Decadence, I’m pretty excited for everyone to get a bite out of it.
This past year of 2012, I commissioned my sister, a painter, to do a 4×5 foot, oil on canvas painting of the cover of my just published cookbook. It turned out amazing!
This website, RKkitchen.com, is pretty much me. Which means, this site is an ever evolving, interactive, choose-your-own-adventure-with-food experience. Almost everything you see can be clicked on. So, bounce around clicking on things that intrigue you. I want RKkitchen.com to be a conduit for happiness, like butter is to good food. As my motto for life goes, by all means, have fun!
Although I’m a one-woman show, food is not. Food is an all-encompassing life experience, as is being in the kitchen. Please get involved. I need help here people. If interested please contact me. I have another cookbook in the works, titled Decades Of Decadent Desserts – I’d like to find some time to work on it. We are in preliminary stages so… it’ll be a couple years. All in good time. I’ll be sure to inform you of everything along the way.
